Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibility

At Advantage Pest Control, safety and sustainability are at the core of our operations. We actively collaborate with research institutions and universities to develop pest control methods that are effective while minimising impact on human health and the environment.

We exclusively use Department of Health – WA–approved products, which are recommended for use in sensitive environments such as hospitals, schools, and public spaces. These products are biodegradable, ensuring they do not accumulate in the ecosystem over time.

About Our Products & Application Process

Are Advantage Pest Control’s products safe for use during pregnancy or around newborns?
2
3

Yes. The products we use are approved by Department of Health - WA and registered for use in sensitive environments such as hospitals, schools, and public spaces. However, we always recommend minimising exposure during application—especially for those who are pregnant, have young children, or suffer from asthma.

  • Outdoor treatments: We advise staying indoors while application is in progress.
  • Indoor treatments: We recommend vacating the premises during the application.
  • Once the treatment is complete and fully dry, the area is completely safe to re-enter.

Are the products safe for pets?
2
3

Cats & Dogs

  • Keep pets out of the treatment area during application—ideally in a garage or laundry.
  • They can safely return once the treated area is completely dry (typically 3–4 hours depending on weather conditions).
  • Be sure to remove food and water bowls before treatment and return them afterward.

Fish

  • Indoor tanks: Cover with plastic wrap and a towel; turn off the filter during treatment.
  • Outdoor ponds: Cover with a tarp, and turn off any filtration systems.
  • Notify your technician about fish ponds or tanks prior to the treatment.

Birds

  • Birds in small cages should be removed or covered with a sheet or towel.
  • Large aviaries should be covered with a tarp during surrounding area treatments.
  • Remove food and water dishes during treatment and replace them once the area is safe.
  • Always inform your technician of the aviary location beforehand.

Reptiles

Reptiles are highly sensitive to pyrethrins, a natural compound used in many pest control products that is safe for humans but potentially harmful to some reptiles.

  • Ideally, remove reptiles from the property entirely during treatment.
  • If removal is not possible:
    • Confine the reptile to one untreated room.
    • Consider postponing treatment until warmer weather, which can reduce the compound’s adverse effects.
  • We strongly recommend discussing reptile safety with your technician prior to service.

Will Advantage Pest Control’s products stain carpets or damage furniture?
2
3

No. The products we use are safe for use in your home and will not damage carpets, furniture, or other household surfaces. If a treatment involves extensive application to carpeted areas, our technician will first carry out a patch test on an inconspicuous spot to ensure there is no risk of staining or damage. Your home is in safe hands with us.

How often should I get a termite inspection?
2
3

According to the Australian Standard AS 3660.2–2000, termite inspections should be carried out at least once a year. Termites cause more damage to Australian homes each year than fires, floods, storms, and earthquakes combined.

It’s also important to note that most home insurance policies do not cover termite damage, making regular inspections not just a preventative measure, but a smart investment. A yearly inspection is highly recommended for protecting your home and peace of mind.

Treatment Guidelines

To ensure the best results from your pest treatment, please follow these guidelines before our technician arrives:

Kitchen & Food Areas

  • Remove all food items from benchtops.
  • Clear utensils, kettles, toasters, coffee machines, and cookware from benches.
  • If food or water bowls are left outside for pets, please cover them securely.

Pets & Animal Enclosures

  • Cover all animal enclosures (e.g., aquariums, cages) with a towel or sheet.
  • Remove pets from the treatment area if it’s an outdoor service

Home Access & Environment

  • Close all windows before the treatment begins.

Ensure our technician has clear access to all necessary areas, including:

  • The exterior of your home
  • Under the house
  • The roof space
  • Any other relevant access points

Furniture & Bedding

  • Cover all bedding (sheets, pillows, mattresses, mattress covers) to protect from spray.
  • Use plastic or old linen sheets as covers.
  • Do the same for couches, tables, and chairs.

Personal Items

  • Remove clothing, jewellery, makeup, toiletries, toilet paper, toys, and small items from walls and open areas.
  • Only clear out cupboards and the pantry if treatment involves German cockroaches or fabric pests.

Important Reminders

  • Do not use any household insect sprays (like Mortein) before treatment, as this may interfere with the professional products we use.

Do I need to leave the property during treatment?

In most cases, you won’t need to vacate your home. However, pregnant individuals, young children, and those with asthma may be advised to leave temporarily.
Some specific pests or treatment types may also require you to vacate. Our team will inform you at the time of booking if this applies to your treatment.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment duration depends on several factors, including the size of your property and the type of pest being treated.
For an estimated timeframe tailored to your situation, call our friendly team on (08) 9305 4464.

What areas of the home are treated?

    Our technicians typically treat:

    • Interior and exterior of the property
    • Roof void
    • Subfloor, if accessible

What if it rains on the day?

    • Light rain: Treatment usually proceeds as normal and may even help products absorb better.
    • Heavy or persistent rain:
      • Interior can still be treated.
      • Exterior will be rescheduled for another day.
Your technician will assess and advise on the day.

How soon will the treatment work?

This depends on the type of pest and treatment product used. Your technician will provide a tailored timeline during your service.

    Cleaning and Safety

    • Do not clean immediately after the service. Allow 5–7 days for the treatment to settle.
      • If early cleaning is necessary, avoid spraying or wiping within 1 inch of skirting boards or treated areas.
    • Once dried, clean surfaces where food is prepared (e.g., benchtops).
    • Mop floors and wash toys—especially if you have young children.
    • Remove any food left out during treatment, both indoors and outdoors.
    • If spider treatment was done, windows and doors may be washed 1–2 weeks post-treatment.

    Weather Concerns

    • Light rain will not impact the treatment.
    • Only severe or persistent rain may reduce effectiveness, and only in exposed external areas.

    Ongoing Protection

We recommend a general pest treatment every 12 months, or bi-annually depending on:

    • The types of pests common in your area
    • Your property's risk level

For tailored advice, give us a call on (08) 9305 4464 and we’ll help you find the right schedule.
